Albert Joseph Herrera

Albert Joseph Herrera, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 1, 2019, at his son’s home.

Albert was born February 7, 1934, in Rowe, New Mexico, to Sophia Herrera. He grew up and attended schools in New Mexico and graduated from St. Michaels High School. He also attended the University of New Mexico where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, specializing in Nuclear Engineering. He was a crew member on the USS Nautilus.

On August 25, 1967, he married Ersinia Maria Montaño in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Together, they raised seven children, Tom, Veronica, Rick, George, Sylvia, Micheal, and Vera. Albert and Ersinia made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Albert worked as an electrical engineer for the INL. Ersinia passed away on April 1, 2016.

He was a member of Christ the King and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He enjoyed boxing, tennis, chess, Sudoku and crossword puzzles, gardening, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his family.

Albert is survived by his daughter, Vera Davis of Portland, OR; other children, Tom Sandoval of Idaho Falls, ID; Veronica (Jeff) Pasley of Idaho Falls, ID; Rick (Joan) Sandoval of Ririe, ID; George (Sammy) Sandoval of Idaho Falls, ID; Sylvia (David) Wadsworth of Ammon, ID; Micheal (Trudy) Herrera of Ammon, ID; sister, Jenifer DeVolder of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Viola A. Serrano of Glendale, WI; brother, Roman Garcia Jr. of Denver, CO; 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Roman and Sophia Garcia; wife, Ersinia Herrera; and brothers, Johnny, Julian, and Paul Garcia.

A Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Deacon Tom Middleton of Holy Rosary Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ammon Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
