Agustin Sanchez Vazquez

Agustin Sanchez Vazquez, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father after a lifetime of devotion, hard work, and love.

Born on October 11, 1931, in Huahua, Michoacán, Mexico, Agustin was the firstborn of Beatriz Vazquez and Salvador Sanchez. As the eldest of eight children, he learned early the values of responsibility, compassion, and determination. He married the love of his life, Cristina Vazquez Barriga, on May 20, 1957, and together they built a family of nine children. They made their home in Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico, where Agustin's commitment to his family was evident in every aspect of his life.

In 1970, Agustin became the first in his family to travel to the United States through the Bracero Program. He worked tirelessly in the construction and agricultural industries across Northern California and Eastern Idaho, earning the respect of colleagues who marveled at his strength and work ethic. Agustin was known for his unwavering endurance, and even as he reached his eighties, he continued to work with determination until his retirement.

After retiring, Agustin devoted his time to what brought him the most joy-gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and caring for his beloved pets. He could often be seen walking the Idaho Falls Greenbelt with his coffee in hand and his dogs by his side, a symbol of his peaceful, contented life.

A devout Catholic, Agustin's faith was central to his life. He was dedicated to the observance of Lent and found comfort in his spiritual practices. His faith, combined with his resilience and love for his family, left a profound legacy for those who knew him.

Agustin is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Cristina; his children, Salvador, J. Jesus (Alma), Jose (Graciela), Saul (Teresa), Agustin (Tacey), Hermila (Roberto), Teresa, Maria (Raul), and Cristina; his siblings, Lucia Sanchez, Ines Barron, Faustino Nava, and Jose Nava (Abigail). He also leaves behind 40 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Agustin was preceded in death by his parents, Beatriz and Salvador; his brothers, Tiburcio Sanchez, and Leopoldo Sanchez; his sister, Mariana Sanchez; and his grandchild, Micheal Sanchez.

A communion service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
