A. John Brookhart

Albert John Brookhart, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 9, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. John was born September 24, 1945, in Boise, Idaho, to Albert Hume Brookhart and Ferol Maude Shaffer Brookhart. He grew up in Boise and graduated from Boise High School. While in high school, he worked at his father’s machine shop. He then attended Ricks College in Rexburg and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. On July 27, 1967, he married Rosalie Cooper in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born four children: Christopher, Ryan, Lindee, and Jacob. John and Rosalie were later divorced. On April 19, 1986, he married Leola Kearsley in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. John and Leola had two children: Matthew and Emily. John worked for Morrison-Knudsen, primarily living and working in Boise but with temporary assignments in Maryland, Hawaii, and Wyoming. He eventually settled in Idaho Falls, where he worked as the comptroller for Development Workshop. In 1986, he began working for a public accounting firm, and in 1988, he bought his own accounting practice, a family business that would become a first job for all of his children. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In his youth, John served as a missionary in the Andes Mission in Peru and Bolivia. He loved speaking Spanish when the opportunity arose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, doing family history, playing pinochle, and building pinewood derby cars. John is survived by wife, Leola Brookhart of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Christopher John (Kristy) Brookhart of Highland, UT, son, Ryan Hume (Tonya) Brookhart of Lexington, KY, daughter, Lindee Barbara (Nathan) Nance of Syracuse, UT, son, Jacob Lee (Andrea) Brookhart of Idaho Falls, ID, son, Matthew Irvin (Jennifer) Brookhart of Beaverton, OR, daughter, Emily Kay Brookhart of Beaverton, OR, sister, Betty McClurg of Boise, ID, sister, Sharon Atkins of Middleton, ID, brother, James "Jim" (Becky) Brookhart of San Tan Valley, AZ, sister, Susan Rhodes of Boise, ID, sister, Carole (Neal) Knight of Meridian, ID, and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 13, 2017, at the Monument LDS Ward (10854 North 41 East in Ucon) with Bishop Justin Pugmire officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 South Ammon Road) and Monday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Victor Cemetery.
