Samuel Earl Mackay, of Ucon, spent his 72nd birthday in the hospital, preparing to return to his loving Heavenly Father and passed away July 1, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Samuel was born June 17, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rex T. Mackay and Mary Ethel Smith Mackay. He attended Plymouth Elementary, Valley Junior High School and Granite and Granger High School. Samuel served as a Specialist in the U. S. Army National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Samuel later attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, earning his Bachelor’s Degree
On June 2, 1967, he married Caroline Simmons in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born four sons, Paul, Thomas, S. Andy and Timothy. In 1970, they made their home in Ucon, Idaho, where Samuel worked as a teacher for District #91. He taught in the Middle School and Junior High for 32 years and coached wrestling, football, track, and girl’s and boy’s basketball. He also served on the Ucon City Council for eight years.
Samuel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served a two year mission to the Central Atlantic States. He also served in various capacities including: Scoutmaster, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum Presidency, High Priest Group Leadership, Second Counselor in the Bishopric, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, Home Teacher and Service Missionary at the Bishop’s Storehouse.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, sports and spending time with his family.

son, Timothy Andrus (Barbara) Mackay of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada
brother, Roger (Kim) Mackay of Taylorsville, UT,
brother, Thomas (Jayne) Mackay of Kennewick, WA.
9 grandchildren: Sarah, Janessa, Katie, Brooke, Jaden, Jessica, Austin, McKenna, Ellie,
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Ray Mackay.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Ucon LDS Ward, 10854 North 41 East, Bishop Jay Neeser officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
