Perry Orval Mortensen, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 28, 1932 in Sugar Salem, Idaho to Christian Charles Mortensen and Pearl Evelyn Chandler Mortensen. He grew up and attended schools in Sugar Salem and Chinook, Montana and attended Idaho Falls High School, and Ammon High School. He continued his education at Ricks College.
On September 8, 1950, Perry married Beverley Empey in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had four children. He worked as an irrigation equipment salesman and territory manager. He was also a camp host at the Island Park Buffalo Campground.
Perry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including: Home Teacher, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Membership Clerk.
Perry enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, impersonating Smoky the Bear, traveling, computers, visiting historical sites, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, being a snowbird, and spending time with his family and grandkids. He spent time in Yellowstone every year of his life.

Son: Kay (Kim E.) Mortensen of West Valley, NY;
11 Grandchildren;
25 Great grandchildren;
Sisters: Barbara (Ken) Palmer of St. George, UT and Eva (Blaine) Petersen of Idaho Falls, ID;
Brothers: Gene (Sandra) Mortensen of Providence, UT and
Von (Dareen) Mortensen of Salt Lake City, UT;
Sisters-in-Law: Joy Mortensen of Wapello, ID and Doris Mortensen of Leadore, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Shane Mortensen; a sister, DeNiece Mills; three brothers, Chris Mortensen, Newell Mortensen, and Jay Mortensen; and a grandson, Trent Butikofer.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Lincoln LDS Chapel (3700 East Lincoln Road). The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Wood East Side Funeral Home (963 South Ammon Road) and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery.
