Lyle Leon Schwartz

Lyle Leon Schwartz, 70, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 26, 2023, at his home from an extended illness. He was under the care of Eden Hospice, Nuclear Care Partners, and his loving family.

Lyle was born August 19, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Leon E. Schwartz and Gae Nell Johnston Bateman.

His parents divorced when he was young and both remarried. He was blessed with two sisters, Kaylyne and Cathy Anderson, and three brothers, Doug, Bob, and Farin Schwartz. Lyle attended schools at Whittier Elementary, Central Jr. High, and graduated from Skyline High school in 1971. He also attended the University of Idaho in Moscow.

Lyle worked for Anderson Excavating, Waters Construction, and the INL. He started out as a laborer, and then did an apprenticeship to become a pipefitter. He later had to resign that occupation due to his health.

On April 18, 1981, he married Susan Groth in Idaho Falls where they made their home in Ucon, and then later in Idaho Falls.

Dustin Leon Schwartz was born May 31, 1987, in Idaho Falls, and completed the Schwartz family. Dustin and his wife, Amy, gave Lyle three beautiful grandchildren: Traeley Michelle, Payton Elizabeth, and Conner John. These three were the apple of Papa’s eye. They brought him so much joy and he was so proud of all their accomplishments.

Lyle had many lifelong friends throughout his entire life, including Garth Blanchard (since 3rd grade), Doug Schofield, Mike O’Brien, Roger Carlson, Evan Pickett, Kirt Johnson, Lauri Nielson (longtime nurse) and many many more.

Lyle and Susan spent the past several winters in Mesquite, Nevada. They made several friends that really impacted their lives; Jan Leddy, Todd, and Kathy Hatfield, Bill Clayton, Christine Siebert, Kim Luedke, Mary Quintana, Chris Daywitt, Skip Carter, Shelly Martsch, Chet and Shelley Naser, Fred Bouse, and Paula (Wilma) Schlitter. These friends had a tight-knit happy hour association where they would get together every day around 4:00 p.m. for cocktails.

He was a member of the Iona Posse for many years and a member of the Jefferson Hills Men’s Golf Association. Lyle missed all his buddies at the golf course when he was no longer able to golf.  He was also a member of the Hope Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed many activities while he was healthy, including hunting, fishing, motorcycles, golfing, snow-machining, skiing, bowling, Nascar, side-by-side riding, and traveling with his wife. His greatest joy was watching his grandkids play sports and spending time with his entire family.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; step-parents, Rex Anderson, Gerry Bates, Dee Bateman; grandparents; and brother, Doug (Diane). He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan; son, Dustin; daughter-in law, Amy; grandchildren, Traeley, Payton, and Conner; his sisters, Kaylyne Anderson (Matt), Cathy Wagner (Al); his brothers, Bob Schwartz (Tera), Farin Schwartz (Sheri); nieces and nephews, and many many friends.

Lyle was a true friend, amazing husband, dad, papa, brother, and uncle. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
