John Charles Wolf, 79, of Salmon, passed away October 9, 2021, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

John was born July 24, 1942, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Melvin Alvin Wolf and Nancy Ruse Wolf Umphlett. He grew up and attended schools in Florida, New York and Illinois, finishing his education at Bloomington High School. He also attended Illinois Central College. John served in the United States Air Force.

On July 31, 1963, he married Nancy Carol Pierce in Denver, Colorado. John and Nancy  made their home in Mossville, Illinois, where John worked as a Quality Control Inspector at Caterpillar for 38 years. They retired to Salmon, Idaho, in 2000.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed studying history, reading, and assembling models.

John is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Carol Wolf of Salmon, ID;  daughter, Charlotte (David) Schumacher of Le Claire, IA; sister, Ruth Ann (Lin) Smith of Atlantic Beach, FL, brother, Stephen Umphlett of Peoria, IL, and sister, Catherine Umphlett of CA; and 1 grandchild, Katy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Wolf, mother, Nancy Umphlett, grandparents, Henry and Soplia Schoen Wolf, and grandparents, Wilfred and Letha Gise Ruse.

Services and burial will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Funks Grove Cemetery, in Mclean, Illinois, under the direction of Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund.
