Carol (Berntson) Spaulding

Carol Berntson Spaulding, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully August 22, 2025, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.

Carol was born January 21, 1940, in Wellsville, Utah, to Melvin and Louise Berntson. Carol was the oldest of five children. Throughout her childhood, she lived in Southern California, Utah, and Idaho.

Carol was blessed to become a mother to two sons, David and Doug, from a previous marriage.  She married her eternal companion, Ray Kent Spaulding, in 1961, and they were later sealed in 1990 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Their marriage blended Carol's two sons and Ray's three children, Derri Dee, JuDee, and Rick, and then together they had their daughter, Lynette.

Ray and Carol made Idaho Falls their permanent home. They enjoyed many years of camping throughout Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, often with extended family. Motorcycle riding was a part of their adventures and Carol was very proud that she owned and rode her own bike. On rare occasions, her sister, Margaret could even convince her to hop on a horse! They eventually glamped up and spent many months over many years with their fifth wheel in Newport Beach, California. Carol also enjoyed traveling all over the world to places such as New York City, Washington DC, New Orleans, Florida, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Fiji, France, and Lebanon.

Carol had many talents and numerous hobbies. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, shopping, floral arranging, and going to movies. Her home was a reflection of her love and talent for decorating. Carol also found great joy serving in the Relief Society for many years. All who knew Carol loved and admired her sense of style. She was beautiful inside and out, classy and elegant with a timeless grace until her final moments.

Family was everything to Carol. She was proud of her family and made it her purpose to be involved. She cherished being part of our lives and her family cherished her. She never missed an opportunity to share a story or show a picture. We will forever miss such an amazing, kind, giving, compassionate, caring, resilient, loving, and fabulous woman.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Lynette (George) Saadeh of Foothill Ranch, CA; step-children, Derri Dee (Stewart) Shumway of Logan, UT, JuDee (Bill) Reed of Idaho Falls, ID, and Rick (Renae) Landon of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Bruce (Lydia) Berntson of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Sandy Banks of Midland, TX; and sister, Gayle High of Idaho Falls, ID; and many loved grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; sons, David and Doug; sister, Margaret Gentle; and step-grandson, Rob Barnett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Idaho Falls 2nd Ward, 885 S. Boulevard. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
