Alexander Creek

ALEXANDER D. CREEK IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Alexander Delbert Creek, 93, of Idaho Falls, died October 15, 2006, at his home. He was born in Centralia, Washington, on December 6, 1912, to William Delbert Creek and Jessie Evelyn Burt Creek. When he was 6 months old the family moved to Pueblo, Colorado and at 10 years old to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He sold Texaco Furniture Polish door to door while his father was a Texaco oil distributor in Coeur d'Alene. He moved to Nampa, Idaho where he graduated from Nampa High School, then moved to Lewiston where he attended Lewiston College of Education. He went into the oil business with his father in Nampa. He married Maxine Thomson on February 10, 1937. They met while attending Nampa High School. His work in the oil business was interrupted by four years of service in the U. S. Navy during World War II, where he was a fighter pilot and became an aviation instructor. The family moved from Nampa to Idaho Falls in 1948, and Alex became a distributor for Texaco Oil Company. At that time, he pursued an involvement in community service, from which he gained a great deal of satisfaction. When he "retired," he became a full-time volunteer involved in public affairs. Some of the organizations he had been president of include: Nampa Jaycees, Toastmasters, 20-30 Club, Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, Pacific Northwest Travel Association, Shrine Club, and Idaho Falls Kiwanis Club. In 1954, he was the drive chairman and in 1955, the President of the Community Chest, a predecessor to the United Way. Some of the organizations he was chairman of include: Idaho Division of Tourism and Industrial Development, Idaho Department of Commerce, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Eastern Idaho Vocational-Technical School Advisory Board (now Eastern Idaho Technical College) for 28 years, Bonneville County Economic Development Committee, and the Bonneville County Waterways Commission. One of the accomplishments he was especially proud of was his part in the purchase of the land that became Sandy Downs Golf Course and Rodeo Grounds. This occurred at the time he was on the city council (1959-1963). While on the city council, he served as president and alternate mayor for one year. Alex was appointed to the following committees by five different governors of Idaho: Idaho Division of Economic and Community Affairs, State Rural Development Council, and Idaho Private Industry Council. He served as President of the Board for the Development Workshop, was a member of the advisory council for Sacred Heart Hospital, and a board member of the Eastern Idaho Development Council. He also had been a member of the Elks Lodge and was associated for 50 years with the Masonic Affiliated Lodges. Survivors include: Son: Alex C. Creek, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Candace (Ole M.) Bergset, Boise , ID Grandson:: David Bergset, Boise, ID; Grandson: Dr. Jon Bergset, Rochester, NY; and Grandson: Erik Bergset, Boise, ID He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, in 2005. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, with Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team. Masonic Rites will also be performed at the cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the EITC Foundation (to benefit the Scholarship Fund), 1600 South 25th East, Idaho Falls, ID 83404-5788. -------------------------------------------- Condolences sent online: Robin Villarreal & Family robinv@cableone.net Alex – Sorry to hear of your loss. I saw your father’s obituary in the paper. Guess the last time we saw him was last summer up at the cabin. As I read through his obit in the paper, I noticed that he was born the same day as I was, December 6th. Mind you, it was a little before my time. He sure was active and community minded. I know you have invested a lot of time and energy in caring for your parents. I imagine this will be quite a time of transition for you. I wish you and your family many blessings. May God give you much peace and grace. Robin Villarreal & Family
