IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Elna Valeen Hunter Leymaster, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away on October 26, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
She was born November 17, 1913, in Heman, Idaho, to William Leslie Hunter and Margaret Elizabeth Jenkins Hunter. She attended elementary school in Heman and St. Anthony. When she was 15, her father passed away and the family moved to Idaho Falls where she graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She attended one year at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and then a year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She returned to Idaho Falls to help her younger sisters attend college and worked as a secretary at the Teton Peaks Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Elna then worked as a secretary for Peterson Furniture. During this time she met her future husband, Donald E. Leymaster.
On February 14, 1942, she married Don. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1946. Together, in 1944, they opened Leymaster Jewelry in downtown Idaho Falls. They had four children. She was completely dedicated to her husband and children. She was an exemplary wife, mother and grandmother.
Elna was active in the community, was a member of the Idaho Falls Music Club, and a member of the PTA. She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many leadership and teaching positions, including 3rd Ward Relief Society President. She had strong values instilled into her from early childhood. A long life full of experiences made her the strong, independent woman that she was, enduring some very difficult times. She worked at the store until she became ill and passed away.
Because of her long life and love of being active, cheerful, hardworking, helpful and independent, Elna Leymaster is leaving a great legacy for all her posterity.

Jane and family,
We extend our thoughts and prayers to you at this time. Your Mother was always friendly, kind and sweet.
Anne Leymaster - I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I've spoken to those who seem to think that because a parent is old, the loss is somehow diminished. I know from experience that the loss of a mother, no matter the age, is tremendous. I also know that her spirit is present every day. Although I haven't seen you in a long while, wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and wanted to express my sorrow for you and your family. (Hopefully you remember me, it's been such a long time since the class of "65") God be with you and yours.
Anne, Jane, and Craig
I am sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I know it's very difficult to loose a Mom, but she is now free from pain, sickness and strife, and she is with you Dad and other family members.
Stay close to each other and support each other through this time. May you be blessed with comfort and peace.
On behalf of the Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corp., we express our deepest sympathy of the passing of your mother. Leymasters is a huge part of Historic Downtown and her strong and witty personality will be in our memories forever. Owning/managing a business for 65 years is a major accomplishment.

We have just heard the news this evening and are so deeply saddened to hear about Mrs. Leymaster.
Elna was such a neat woman and such a pleasure to speak with... She was a woman who took great pride in her children and grandchildren, as well as in her business. She was graceful and charismatic, and she was never too busy to "chat" when we came in to the store. Elna always had never-ending patience with our boys with all of their many questions and "touching" everything in her store. It never phased her...She made us all smile.
We will surely miss coming next door and seeing her in her pretty red sweater, always primped and looking her best. She was one of the hardest working woman we have had the pleasure of knowing and we will never forget her.
Elna, although you may be gone from this earth, we know you are now with your Father in Heaven in his Kingdom.
Downtown will not be the same without you...
Anne, Jane, Blake (and family we have yet to meet): May God Bless your family and be with you during this time of pain and mourning. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
