Life Legacy

Lori Christensen passed away, Saturday, November 24th, at her home following an extended illness.

Lori was born in Blackfoot, ID on June 3, 1950 to Naomi Allen Christensen and Harry Christensen. She had a happy childhood and was extremely close to her mother. They loved to shop together and sew pretty dresses.

Lori married Reuel Hugh Wilkins in Shelley ID in 1968 before he was sent to Vietnam. Later that year she graduated from Shelley High School and gave birth to their daughter, Lisa. After Reuel returned from Vietnam, the family moved to Malad, ID. They added to their family in 1971 when Bill was born and when Jacki was born in 1972, their family was complete and they moved to Idaho Falls.

Lori was able to stay home with her kids during this time. A time she once called “One of the best times of her life.” Unfortunately her marriage ended and she became a single mom. She worked for several attorneys in town and also with the Bonneville County Court system.

When her children were older, Lori had the opportunity to move to Colorado to manage a hotel and restaurant there. Her kids stayed with her mother so she could take advantage of this great opportunity. The hospitality industry was very good to her and lead her from Denver to Miami and then to Palm Springs.

Lori first became a grandmother in December of 1987. Ricky was born and she was as excited as if she had had him herself. Lori hated being away from her family and she moved to back to Idaho Falls. It was at this time that she began working at The Salvation Army in the social services office. She loved working there and felt blessed to be able to help others in need.

When Ricky was about a year and a half old he gave Lori the nickname of Baby One to help distinguish which Grandma he was referring to. She loved the name and before long everyone that knew her called her “Baby One”.

In 1995, Lori would receive one of the greatest blessings in her lifetime. Nic was born. She cared for him from day one. She loved having a baby again and in 2007 she formally adopted him. They had a very special Mother-Son relationship and he helped to care for her from a young age.

Sasha became a part of the family in 1998. She was such a little princess and Lori loved spoiling her with the best of everything. Lori lived for her children and grand children. She never missed a ballgame or hockey match that Ricky played in. She always participated in Nic and Sasha’s school events and supported them in any way possible. Emmi came along 2002 to complete the family. Lori always loved shopping for her little fashion star and Emmi loved sharing her artistic talents with “Baby One”. All of the kids and grand kids loved their “Baby One.”

Lori married George Lake on November 9, 2002. They were married for 10 years.
In 2008, Lori suffered an aortic dissection and nearly died. She would have several more surgeries to repair the damage but she was never very healthy after that. After her surgery Lori’s former husband Reuel, allowed her to move into his home to recover. It was at this time that they developed a special friendship that she would grow to cherish.

A year later her son, Bill, was diagnosed with cancer. Lori went to every doctor appointment with him. She was there with him throughout every chemo and radiation session. She became involved with Relay for Life, and Stand Up To Cancer as ways to honor him. Despite getting the best care possible and prayers from family and friends Bill passed away on June 7, 2011. This was a devastating loss. She mourned him every day for the rest of her life.

During this time of loss, Lori would be blessed by three special little angels. Ricky had married Kendra Weekes in 2007. They gave Lori three darling great grand children who she adored. Paxton, 3, Davin, 2, and Remini 2 ½ months helped to put sparkle back into her eyes.

Lori is survived by daughters, Lisa Wilkins and Jacki Wilkins, son, Nic Wilkins, grandson, Ricky Wilkins, granddaughters, Kendra (Weekes), Sasha Wilkins, Emmi Probst, great grandsons, Paxton and Davin Wilkins, and great granddaughter, Remini Wilkins.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Bill Wilkins.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Wood’s Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue with Eric Christensen conducting. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be immediately following services in the Lincoln Cemetery.
