IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Lewis Grant Mathews, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 6, 2008, at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

He was born February 27, 1915, at Woodville, Idaho, to Heber Grant Mathews and Luella McBride Mathews. He grew up in the area, attended New Sweden Grade School and graduated from Shelley High School. During high school he played on the football and basketball teams. He also loved playing baseball with his church team. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Staff Sargent during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii and San Francisco.

On June 6, 1946, he married Darla Bair Preece in Idaho Falls. He was a truck driver for Orange Transportation and later for PIE.

Lewis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, football, basketball, reading, and playing cards. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Sister: Alice Harder, Shelley, ID
14 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan Mathews and Warren “Bud” Mathews; and a sister, Marjorie Farrer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, with Steve Holtom officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, 1810 Moran Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
