Wood Funeral Home

Wood Funeral Home was originally started as the Dinwoody Funeral Home in 1911 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jack A. Wood, Sr. bought the business and moved to Idaho Falls with his family in 1925. It was located at the time on the corner of Broadway and the Yellowstone Highway. He moved the business to its current location on Elm Street & North Ridge in 1928. Our funeral home is still wholely owned and operated by the Wood family.

Jack A. Wood, Sr. was born and raised in Murray, Utah. He met and married Blanche Jenkins, whose father owned Jenkins Mortuary in Murray. He went into business with his father-in-law in the early 1920's. Wanting to establish a firm for the support of his own family, Jack decided to move to Idaho Falls when the opportunity to purchase Dinwoody Funeral Home became available.

Jack & Blanche had four children, the eldest of whom, Jack A. Wood, Jr. was born while they were in Utah. He came with his parents to Idaho Falls and was later joined by a brother, Ralph, a sister, Annette, and a brother, Robert.

Jack and Ralph both decided to go into funeral service and received their training at the San Francisco Mortuary College. They both served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, then joined their father in the business in the late 1940's.

Ralph's eldest son Marlowe, and Jack's eldest son, Jon, joined them in the 1970's, after completing their schooling at San Francisco Mortuary College. In 1991 Marlowe left to work in Indiana and Jack's son-in-law, Clay Jensen, joined us until early 2005.

In 2002 we opened an additional facility on the east side of Idaho Falls. Construction was completed at 963 South Ammon Road that August and it has been very helpful to have a location more convenient for those in Ammon, Iona, Shelton, Lincoln, Milo, Ririe, Swan Valley, and other areas.

Jack A. Wood, Jr., passed away July 4, 2005, and is greatly missed. In May, 2006, Jon's eldest son, Brian, graduated from the mortuary sciences program at Mesa Community College in Arizona. Upon graduation, Brian returned to Idaho Falls to rejoin us permanently and carry on the family legacy of funeral service.

Changes come about - often as a natural and expected part of life (as we well know), but the tradition of compassion and caring that we have nurtured at Wood Funeral Home will always be the same.
