Veterans Benefits

While many veterans qualify for assistance from the
Veterans Administration at the time of death, not all do.
Please read the following information carefully
to see if your loved one may be eligible.
If you have further questions, please call
the Veterans Administration at (800) 827-1000.
-
Veterans Administration Cash Benefits For Reimbursement of Burial Expenses - $300 is available for an honorably discharged veteran, IF: they were in receipt of V.A. non-service connected disability, pension benefits, or service-connected compensation benefits at the time of death or IF the death occurred in a V.A. hospital, or V.A. contracted health care facility. Additional costs of transporting the remains may also be paid.
-
Burial Plot Allowance - $300 is available for an honorably discharged veteran not buried in a cemetery that is under the jurisdiction of the US government, IF: the veteran was receiving VA non-service connected disability pension or service-con-nected compensation benefits at the time of death or IF the death occurred in a V.A. hospital or V.A. contracted health care facility.
-
Headstone or Marker - In a National (or Veterans) Cemetery only, a veteran, spouse of veteran, or a dependent child of a veteran may receive a free headstone.
In a private cemetery, a simple marker is only provided for the veteran, providing it is allowed by cemetery officials.
Reserved space for future inscription of spousal data may be allowed on the marker. The grave no longer has to be 'unmarked' unless the death date was prior to September 11, 2001.
